A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY


• born March 18, 1941
• sang in Baptist choirs in home town of Prattville, Alabama
• family moved to Detroit when he was a teenager
• sang with gospel groups and R&B groups in early sixties
• 1991 inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
• genres : gospel, soul, R&B, pop
• died Jan.19/06 after suffering a heart attack
