JOHN KAY AND STEPPENWOLF
A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY of John Kay ( and Steppenwolf)
- born in East Prussia
- grew up in Germany listening to music of Little Richard and Chuck Berry
- by age of 14 he wanted to be a rock'n roll singer
- family moved to Toronto in 1965
- form Canadian band called "The Sparrow" (1965) prior to
forming Steppenwolf in 1967 (blues-rock band)
- debut album is an important record in the history of rock'n roll
- 1968 released hits "Born To Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride",
"The Pusher", and "Rock Me."
- went solo in the mid 70s, then back to Steppenwolf in 1980
- John Kay co-produced, wrote, and sang the lead vocals
