• Born: Charles Eugene Boone (June 1, 1934) in Jacksonville, FL and raised in Nashville
• 1955 released first record "Two Hearts, Two Kisses; then the hit "Ain't That a Shame" which reached #1
• was a teen-idol recognized for his clean-cut image,"white buck" shoes
• many records in the 50s and 60s
• sixty hits in the US singles charts with six #1 hits
• sold over 45 million records
• "Love Letters in the Sand" stayed on the charts for 34 consecutive weeks
• also starred in 15 films including April Love (1957) and Journey to the Center of the Earth (1960)
• appeared in musical variety shows (radio and tv)
• has authored over 15 books
• turned to gospel music in the 70s
• started his own gospel label and hosted a gospel show on tv
• hosts a gospel music show on the radio (The Music of Your Life)
• involved in Christian ministry, charities and sports
• In 2002 inducted into Gospel Music Hall of Fame
• married to wife Shirley (for over 48 yrs), has four daughters and thirteen grandchildren
• resides in California
