- Born: Charles Eugene Boone (June 1, 1934) in
Jacksonville, FL and raised in Nashville
- 1955 released first record "Two Hearts, Two Kisses; then the hit
"Ain't That a Shame" which reached #1
- was a teen-idol recognized for his clean-cut image,"white buck" shoes
- many records in the 50s and 60s
- sixty hits in the US singles charts with six #1 hits
- sold over 45 million records
- "Love Letters in the Sand" stayed on the charts for 34 consecutive weeks
- also starred in 15 films including April Love (1957) and
Journey to the Center of the Earth (1960)
- appeared in musical variety shows (radio and tv)
- has authored over 15 books
- turned to gospel music in the 70s
- started his own gospel label and hosted a gospel show on tv
- hosts a gospel music show on the radio (The Music of Your Life)
- involved in Christian ministry, charities and sports
- In 2002 inducted into Gospel Music Hall of Fame
- married to wife Shirley (for over 48 yrs), has four daughters and thirteen
grandchildren
- resides in California
