********************* REGGAE *********************************** Reggae music began in the early 1960's when musicians from the tiny island of Jamaica (in the West Indies) took the music that they had been hearing from places like New Orleans and Miami, and asapted it. The popular music on the island at that time was Ska, and Rock Steady, These styles were unique because of their syncopated rhythms; the beat and accents were played opposite from the way American musicians played it. The Jamaican musicians would take American Rhythm & Blues music, and turn the music "inside out" (syncopate the beat). Then, they would make the Bass guitar a featured instrument in the song. Finally, they would add Electric guitars, keyboards, and percussion. This sound was known as Reggae music. ---------------------------- JAMAICA IS REGGAE MUSIC http://members.tripod.com/~Jamusa/Jam2.html SITE with midis, realaudio and info files links to Bob Marley sites ,UB-40,etc. http://www.mikestrickland.net/reggae/ get info on reggae artists ; with links to Bob Marley and others http://www.capecod.net/~ccunning/reggae.htm *************** JOHNNY NASH **************************** a brief history -born 9 August 1940, Houston, Texas, USA -first started singing in a church choir. -early teens he sand R&B hits of the 50s on a tv show called Matinee. -1957 recorded Doris Day's 'A Very Special Love'). -1958 he starred in Take A Giant Step -1960 he appeared in Key Witness, with Dennis Hopper -1965 achieved a Top 5 hit (R&B chart) 'Lets Move And Groove Together'. -1967 his R&B hit was so successful in Jamaica, he went to the island to promote his hit.
